Weapons

In Severance/Blade, all weapons are true to the time-period and genre the game belongs to. You'll find several types of weapons (around 80 different), some are specific to each player character, some are general and some are magic. You will find all weapons types in the different levels. It’s up to you to select the ones you wish to keep, just remember that there are clumsy weapons too.

The beauty of it all is that all weapons are realistically represented compared to certain other games. Every weapon is handled according to the class they belong to and delivers different types of damage and they reacts differently towards different enemies. By damage type I mean the type of damage inflicted by your attack. You have concussive damage, causing greater possibilities of knock back, impaling damage causing damage multipliers (especially to the head) and slash damage causing greater possibilities of mutilations. There are different wound areas depending on where you hit or get hurt, the head is the most critical one. You can, for example, drop an enemy with one arrow, aimed at his head.

Other than the regular weapons you can also pick up, practically any objects you have the strength to carry, and use them as weapons if you like. This includes chopped off limbs! For example, you can pick up a burning torch and throw it at your enemies. If they are unlucky enough to stand nearby wooden barrels, the barrels can be set on fire by the torch and cause burning injuries.

Every weapons and objects can be thrown. For this, you can use the targeting system for effective distances up to 20 metres (depending on character). At longer ranges, you have to aim your throws manually from the 1st person view, as with firing arrows with your bow. Thrown weapons or objects, and fired arrows, are affected by gravity and travels in a parabola. This means, at longer distances, you need to aim above your target in order to hit. If you successfully throw and hit an enemy with a sword, you'll see the enemy moving towards you with the sword hanging out from his body! If your throw to short, you can always hope for the weapon to bounce up on impact with the floor and hit and wound the target in his lower regions of the body.

Of course, your enemies will carry weapons too and they know very well how to use them. So, as long as you're not a Barbarian, it is wise to wear some armour. Different characters prefer and can use different type of armour. Expect a wide selection of these as well as other protection as shields and helmets.

You will also find weapons that allow you to make special combos or magical attacks. Magical weapons do not react in the same way as the regular ones. For instance, firing of magic projectiles with a staff, won't be affected by gravity as a regular arrow. They may also vary in damage types. How many and what abilities these weapons will have, remains a secret at this moment.

No weapons are overly done and you'll have to experience with which weapons best suits your character, playing style and the enemies you're fighting. Severance/Blade will have something to offer for any taste and every situation, but you'll have to learn how to use them if you wish to survive!
