The Enemies
The will be over 35 different kinds of enemies
in the game; ranging from small annoying creatures, trying to bite
your legs off, to huge monsters and everything in between. But size
is not everything. Every kind has their own way of behavior and
sets of skills. Orcs are very aggressive, but lacks co-ordinance.
They can even start attacking each other when they get provoked.
Trolls and Minotaurs move slowly, but are much more powerful than
orcs. Skeletons grow from the earth and are good at dodging attacks.
Traitor Knights move and attack in an organized way; circling you
and try to out-flank you etc. There are also some very powerful
enemies with plenty of magic attacks.
The enemy AI will be very sophisticated. When
encountering a number of enemies, the leader will order attacks
while being protected by the minors. Some enemies will run for help
while others will make fury attacks when things start looking bad
for them.
There are two developers at RAS working on
the AI; Bob Yves and Jose Raluy. Bob is doing the combat AI while
Jose is focused on path finding and enemies' reaction to the surroundings
(seeing, hearing and observing what an other enemy are doing etc..).
In order to defeat your sworn enemies, you'll
need to learn their different styles of fighting. This won't be
an easy task with the great variety of enemy behavior and skills.
If you feel you got the hang on how to slay a bad ass Troll with
your Barbarian Character, try doing the same approach with the Dwarf.
I'm sure you'll need to come up with something new if you don't
want your poor Dwarf made even smaller by the tramp of a Troll's
foot!
You can see the enemies wounds during combat
and if you think a creature look to big for you, why not cut off
a few limbs to make them look smaller? You can continue to mutilate
the creatures as they play out the death animation, or lying on
the ground, but beware, as they can have the same pleasure with
you!
Most enemy corpses remain in their dead position,
except for some special ones, which disappear with magic effects.
There are different manners for placing enemies on the levels. Sometimes
there will be placed a fixed number of them or they are generated
depending on each player's abilities. This will help on increasing
the reality feeling of the game.
To name a few of the various enemies in Severance/Blade,
you'll see orcs, trolls, traitor knights, skeletons, zombies, minotaurs,
spiders and zombies. Remember, these are only examples of what the
game has to offer. One thing is certain; the world of Severance/Blade
will not be a safe place to adventure in!
