Q: What exactly is the title of this game?
A: The original title of the game was just 'Blade', which became 'Blade: The Edge of Darkness'. This is what the game will be called in Spain and South America. This title became a problem world wide, as it was assosiated with the Marvel Comics and the movie and game based on this comics. Therefore the game was renamed 'Severance: Blade of Darkness' in Europe (except for Spain and South America) and 'Blade of Darkness' in the US (The word Severance was too extreme to use in the title in the US).

Q: Is the game based on the movie Blade, starring Westley Snipes?
A: No!!! Actually, Blade was in the works long before the movie came out.

Q: What is Severance/Blade?
A: Severance/Blade is a 3d action combat game; with a strong touch of adventure and RPG elements. The most epic battle between evil and good is about to break lose, and you will find yourself in the middle of it as the only hope to save the world from tyranny and disaster. Sharpen your blade and prepare to fight yourself to heroism and glory in a true middle-age spirit! (Read more about it in our Hands-On Preview and in our About section)

Q: When will Severance/Blade be released?
A: The European version will be released winter 2000 and the US version Q1 2001.

Q: What are the system requirements for Severance/Blade?
A: Minimum requirements is set to PII 200, 32 Mb RAM and a 4 Mb video card, while a P II 400, 64 Mb RAM with 8 Mb video card is recommended.

Q: What 3d API will the game use?
A: DirectX will be fully supported, but it works with Glide and OpenGL as well.

Q: When will there be a demo available?
A: The demo will be announced here, at Blade Universe, and at the official Blade website as soon as it is ready. Expect the demo somewhere between mid-October and end of October (2000).

Q: Can I beta test Severance/Blade?
A: No, the beta testing of Severance/Blade will be closed...

Q: What kind of characters will you be able to play in the game?
A: You can choose between 4 unique and completely different characters: The Knight, The Barbarian, The Dwarf and The Amazon. (Read more about it here)

Q: What kind of monsters will I be able to fight?

Q: What about weapons?
A: There is about 80 different weapons in Severance/Blade, from the usual swords, axes, bows, two-handed swords, scimitars to the more *secret* ones. (Read more here)

Q: How many levels will there be?
A: 18 levels in single player, each with their own set of missions, and an unknown number of multiplayer levels. (Read more here)

Q: What type of view will the game be played in?
A: Severance/Blade is played in 3rd person. You can choose from three different 3rd person views and a 1st person view. The 1st person view is mainly used for taking a better look at the surroundings and when using the bow and arrow.

Q: How will the skills and character development work?
A: Much like what we’ve seen in other RPG games. You are awarded experience points for killing monsters and gain in levels as you reach a certain limit. As you reach a new level you learn new combos and can use certain weapons more efficiently. You'll also delivering higher powered attacks and gain health.

Q: Will the game ship with a map editor?
A: The editor will be available, but it is not decided whether it will be included with the game or if it will be available for download at a later date.

Q: Will there be multiplayer support?
A: Yes! Severance/Blade will be played in arena-type of levels in multiplayer, but most of the info on this hot topic is kept secret for now.

Q: Can I play multiplayer in Co-op mode?
A: No, co-op mode was too complex to include in the game as it was not origianl designed to have mp-support. Only death match and team based type of games will be available.

Q: Will you be able to choose your own skins for your character?
A: Each character will have 4 different skins to choose from in multiplayer. There is a possibility that you'll be able to use custom skins as well.

Q: What's so special about the light and shadows in this game?
A: The REBEL1 3d engine used in the game is capable of producing accurate volumetric shadows with multiple light sources. This means you'll see the most outstanding and real looking shadow effects, from all parts and objects, ever seen in a game before. The engine renders colored and volumetric light in real-time. Read more about the technology and REBEL1 engine at the official website.

Q: What's up with this interactive stuff?
A: In Severance/Blade you can pick up any objects (depending on character and weight of the object) and use them for different purposes, or just having fun throwing them around the place. You can even pick up cut-off limbs and use them as weapons, as with any other object!

Q: Who is developing the game?
A: Severance/Blade is being developed by Spanish Rebel Act Studios.

Q: Rebel Act Studios? Never heard of them…
A: Rebel Act Studios is a Spanish game development company, formed by Friendware in 1996. Blade will be their first title. You can read more about the development and the developers in our The Developers at Work article.

Q: Who will be distributing Severance/Blade?
A: Friendware will stand for the distribution in Spain and South-America while the world-wide distributor will be Codemasters.

Q: I didn't find any answer to my question here, what do I do?
A: Try looking at the official website of the game and visit the official forums to find answers or post questions.

You can also post your questions at the official forums or send them to me.
