. . . your source for news and information on Rebel Act Studios' Severance!

About Severance/Blade

Severance/Blade is a 3d action game developed by Rebel Act studios. It combines RPG and adventure elements, into a mind blowing, real time and action filled experience that let you fight your way to glory and heroism, in a true middle-age spirit. This will happen thru 18 huge levels; each in its unique highly detailed environment, powered by Rebel Act’s astonishing 3d-engine.

The engine is capable of creating amazing volumetric lighting effects and some impressive, real time, shadows from every single object. The game consists of tons of interactive objects that you can pick up and use in any imaginable way. If you are having a bad day, it lets you pick up furniture and crush them at the walls, or even more fascinating, throw them at living creatures. You can even pick up a torch and set things on fire! All objects are also breakable.

The engine is specially focused on realism and the laws of physics in order to create the most believable environments and recreation of how things work in real life. From how chairs reacts when hitting walls to how weapons and equipments affects your maneuverability.

You get to choose from one of the four human races, the knights, the amazons, the barbarians and the dwarfs. Each of which has its distinctive abilities and characteristics that will affect the way the game is played, both in style and storyline.

You control your character from a 3rd person view (you can choose from 3 different camera views), although you’ll have the ability to take a closer look from a 1st person view. You will have to maneuver your character through tight passages, water and dark, creepy, corridors to mention a few. Movement includes walking, running, sneaking, climbing, jumping and if you're not careful you can also be falling. Not to seldom you’ll face evil creatures, which would rather see your scull cleaved than interfering with their quest. Every character is animated in “hierarchy-models”. This enables for a more dynamic and realistic looking movements. “Hierarchy models” also means that you’ll have the ability to gently remove limbs from your enemies in an authentic looking way, and be impressed by the real looking blood, dripping into pools on the floor and staining the wall. The possibilities are endless…

The heart, of the game, is still the combat mechanism. It lets you “pad-lock” an enemy so that your character will face him at all times as you move about. When there are several creatures nearby, you can simply toggle your lock between them. This brings new tactical elements into play, never seen before in games like this. If three bloodthirsty orcs, for example, charge you, you can try to divert them from each other by moving towards each of them in turn. This will help making room for you to make an attack and to keep them off your back, and thereby prevent them crowding you and tear you apart. You will have four different attacks and four different defensives along with a special attack, depending on which character you are playing. Some weapons also have, as the characters, their own special combos.

Enemy AI seems to be state of the art in the game. Creatures group around you and try to flank you, runs off if scared or outnumbered and tempt you into their devastating and cruel traps. They will also cry for help from their fellow evils when things go bad for them, some will even make fury attacks on you. Depending on the enemy's intelligence, they can try and break any obstacles to get to you or use the surroundings to hide themselves. Severance/Blade will make you think while fighting and thusmake it more of a strategic challange. Rushing tactics won’t keep you alive for long, which is a good thing in my opinion. Other than combat, you will be presented with various, well designed, puzzles to twist your brain on.

Sounds too good to be true, huh? Believe it or not, this game got it all, and more!

Now…are you ready for the most adrenaline pumping action ever? Are you ready to experience a truly immerse and epic adventure?

...are you ready for Severance/Blade?
